A lahmacun in Vientiane

Lahmacun

Lahmacun

My favorite restaurant in Vientiane is called Via Via.  I love the good selection of wines there and all food coming from a pizza oven. Last time I ordered a lahmacun, which was truly delicious.

Smoking ban in Laos.

Ban on smoking in public outdoor places reached Laos.

Sunset over Mekong river in Luang Prabang.

I visit Luang Prabang many times. I come to this lovely town by plane, bus and boat. The river journey by boat is by far the greatest. Take your time and travel 2 days from Thai border to Luang Prabang by a local barge called in Laos the slow boat.

Pha That Luang – Vientiane.

Pha That Luang is a stupa. It is the most important monument in Laos. The stupa was built in the mid-16th century when Lan Xang capital was moved from Luang Prabang to Vientiane.

To get Champasak you have to cross Mekong river.

I leave the highway 13 on my way to Champasak. After 5 km I reach the east bank of Mekong river. The local ferries have different shape and size. The smallest ones look like a wooden fishing pier. Such small ferry can carry 4 people and 2 scooters.

Mekong river in Champasak. South Laos

I enjoy splendid view of Mekong sitting in a rustic bar by the river. Famous ruined Khmer temple complex Vat Phou is only 6 miles away from my vantage point.
